About Sequel
Reimagining how independent film gets financed.
About a year ago, one of our favorite filmmakers brought us a project called The Musical. A sharp, irreverent comedy about a jilted musical theater “genius” who exacts revenge on his ex by using their tween students to mount the most inappropriate play imaginable.
She found great partners with the producers of Didi — which won Sundance and sold to Focus Features in a competitive sale — and wrapped the movie this summer with Rob Lowe, Gillian Jacobs, and Will Brill attached.
But they needed our help rounding out the financing. We went through the traditional channels we've gone down a million times — legacy buyers, banks, debt financiers — and found the system more broken than ever.
Independent film financing has become increasingly inaccessible. Complex deal structures, shrinking buyer pools, and opaque processes create barriers that prevent great stories from being told.
Sequel exists to change that. We're a film financing company and production studio building a more transparent, accessible path for independent filmmakers. Our approach is simple: find exceptional creative talent, provide meaningful financing support, and let the work speak for itself.
So we're trying something new.
